Evocative Cornwall Greetings Card - Gone Fishing, Looe - NEW
Evocative Cornwall Greetings Card - Gone Fishing, Looe - NEW
One of the new blank greetings cards from Evocative Cornwall for 2024.
Rich in history and traditions all its own, Looe is bustling with activity year-round. Divided into East and West Looe by its river, the town boasts a distinctive 'banjo' pier. The Cornish architect, Joseph Thomas, designed the pier with its unusual shape in 1896 to alleviate the problem of the silt in the harbour mouth, which it certainly did.
Looe remains one of the major fishing ports in Cornwall, particularly noted for the freshness of its fish. The shape of the harbour requires smaller boats which leave and return to the harbour with each high tide, rather than spending many days at sea.
More fishermen stand on the pier, which particularly appeals to my sense of humour because of the juxtaposition with the No Fishing sign (which is actually only prohibited in the summer)!
A versatile card, suitable for any occasion but particularly perhaps if you love Looe or fishing!
